From the Battlefield to the Boardroom, Why I Built This

I spent 23 years in the Army. I retired as a First Sergeant, having led soldiers through combat deployments, run HR systems for a workforce most companies would call "enterprise scale," and managed logistics and operations under conditions where failure wasn't an option.

When I transitioned out, I'd led complex, multifaceted teams and mentored hundreds of people. I'd built HR programs from the ground up. I had a track record most executives would envy.

And I still couldn't get a call back.

The problem wasn't my experience. It was that nobody outside the military could read it. My resume was full of acronyms, MOS codes, and duty descriptions that meant everything to another veteran and nothing to a civilian hiring manager. I was translating my life's work into a language no one on the other side spoke.

I built Built to Lead Career because I do not want another veteran, first responder, or mission-driven leader to lose an opportunity because their resume could not speak the room's language. I know how to bridge that gap — I have lived on both sides of it: as a soldier, as a Senior HR Manager building systems for thousands of employees, and now as a business owner and ministry leader.

Leadership development is a core part of what we do. Mentorship at Built to Lead means helping people identify their strengths, accept accountability, establish meaningful goals, communicate with confidence, make principled decisions, and prepare to lead others. The goal is not only to help clients secure better opportunities, but also to help them become the kind of leaders who develop people, strengthen organizations, and leave a positive legacy.
